Access London made the following comments

“Opened in 2013, Guys & Dolls Parlour in Shoreditch offers a range of face and body beauty treatments for guys, and you guessed it, dolls. Promising to “go above and beyond industry and client expectations” and famous for being the fastest wax in London, I visit after work one Thursday to put them to the test.

In the heart of Shoreditch tucked away just off Brick Lane, I find the salon with no problems. To enter Guys & Dolls you must buzz on the door; I feel like a VIP being let into an exclusive venue! I am greeted by founder Shimol, who is very welcoming and friendly from the get go. She apologises as she’s running a little behind, but offers me a drink while I wait. I have never been offered a drink in a beauty salon before. At other salons I’ve visited it often seems like a race to get clients in and out the door as quickly as possible, but I can already tell Guys & Dolls is different.

Located just five minutes from Shoreditch High Street station on buzzing Cheshire Street, I enjoy a spot of people watching while I wait. Despite the hustle and bustle outside, inside feels tranquil and private – customers don’t wander in and out like they do at high street salons. A male client waits next to me (proving it’s not just for dolls!) and a sleepy King Charles Spaniel belonging to another client naps near my feet, the atmosphere is very chilled.

Shimol appears with a client; she is so warm and friendly with her I assume this lady has been a client of hers for years – but she’s then, despite it being my first visit, just as chatty with me! I instantly feel at ease around her and less anxious about the appointment. She leads me downstairs to the treatment area which is lit softly with candles for a calming atmosphere and is divided into three private rooms.

Guys & Dolls use only Lycon wax, a lower temperature, oil-based wax which Shimol tells me cannot burn or bruise the skin, and removes even the shortest hairs. Throughout the treatment she chats to me which is a great distraction from any discomfort or self consciousness. She gives me useful tips and advice for looking after waxed skin, like using oil instead of moisturisers or lotions. Her impressive experience (she trained in “waxing-obsessed” Los Angeles before opening her own salon) and knowledge is reassuring; I feel relaxed knowing I’m in safe hands.

She is speedy but very thorough; in under fifteen minutes my treatment is complete! I found the Lycon wax was less painful that other waxes I have had, and although it wasn’t my first waxing experience, I would highly recommend Shimol for any first-time waxers. She is both very friendly and professional.

Guys & Dolls is in its own league of beauty salons; a sanctuary in which to escape the city. In my short visit I felt well-looked after, not flustered and rushed out the door like past salon experiences. I love that Shimol owns the salon but works as part of the team too. They truly cater for both men and women with treatments from reflexology massages to threading, manicures to spray tans and prices are reasonable for the area. If you need any more persuasion, Access London recommend booking between 10am – 12pm to get 15% off all beauty treatments!”
